On our recent trip to the Kalahari, I was fortunate to see this Pale Chanting Goshawk hunting from this tree stump. These Pale Chanting Goshawks are really abundant in this Northern Cape area. I am not sure of the kind of insect it caught.

Shot handheld from my vehicle.

What a beautiful bird! Great pose, wonderful stump, and perfect exposure/techs - very fine image! I'd consider a bit more room all around..

Thank you Sandy. Here is a reworked image with more space all round. I agree it works better.

Neal, what a great view of this bird. I particularly like the perch and am glad you added a bit more breathing room on the left in the repost. However, I don't think you needed to add quite so much to the top and the right. The balance of the image has been thrown out of whack slightly (IMO). Centering on the bird + stump with even spacing all around would've been fine I think.

That orange beak/eye really draws me into the image and I like the look the hawk is giving. I do like the repost a little better. Excellent shot.

Sweet photo of this beauty Neal!!! Excellent exposure work here with nice feather details, that perch is wonderful. Personally, I like the first version you posted a bit better. I'm with Max on his crop suggestion about the second version.

I like the feeding action here and the eye stands out very nicely.

Neal I really like this. Great perch and pose. I would like to see more room on left if you have it.

Two great raptors in a row, Neal. Beautiful work. The perch really works well with the pose of the bird.

Love the repost. The only thing I see worth mentioning as a possible improvement is a pretty pronounced halo around the stump and bird in places.
