The young one

From photo safari in 2010 in Greater Kruger Park, Balule natural reserve. There were a family of warthogs, coming into the camp to graze nice green grass in the camp. They allowed us to come quite close. I took this shot in afternoon on cloudy day, so conversion to b&w was best to hide the pale colors.
What i like in this photo is such narrow DOF and great mustaches of this youngster.
Nikon D700, AFS 500mm f/4,0 lens at f/4,0 and 1/1000s and ISO 640.

Regards, Gorazd

Looks fine in B&W, although I'm always curious about the colour version.
Love this youngster's face and mustache and overall "fuzziness."
Really nice detail, especially evident in the larger version.
The dark edges might be better lightened up - not sure.
Nice image!

Hey Gorazd,

I find this shot quite interesting. I might be wrong on this, but the vignette looks like it might be natural - at least it looks somewhat natural (which to me is a good thing). Love those almost white whiskers. On my monitor the larger version looks just a tad over-sharpened. And...given the direction of the warthog's head/gaze, I'm thinking a very slight off-centre placement of the subject - with it shifted slightly to the right - might strengthen the composition a bit. But obviously an "eye of the beholder" thing...

Cheers...

Brad

Really nice image! Great pose, and I like the mustache on him too  . Although I do like your comp, I think I agree with Brad about setting him more to the right.

Great look. I would soften the vignette a bit.

Thank you. Vignette is natural and a litlle software ( maybe unnecesarry ). Color version is a too " plane ". Light was bad, so conversion saved the photo.
Best regards, Gorazd
