Very poignant. I always make it point to buy something from people in this situation, or give them some food. I'm sure you do too. One other thing I'll mention is it looks as if you got down on your knee to shoot this, rather than shooting down on them. I really like that.

Love the expressions on their faces and how colorful the scene is. A very touching photo.

Kent, yes, I always ask their permission to photograph them, and give them enough for a good meal for the family. The social services in Ecuador are nearly non-existent, and hundreds of families like this are on the street in larger cities all day begging and trying to survive any way possible. Most are in the same place all night as well. Truly heartbreaking.

Beautiful captured emotion. Rather ironic that despite their situation, they have a bottle of Coke sitting next to them. The marketing giants push the unhealthy stuff and people buy it, despite their circumstances.

A bottle of coke is actually cheaper in Ecuador than bottled water.
Sad..

Thank you for sharing this, Sandy. I have heard some staggering statistics recently that make me really question the validity of my investment in cameras and lenses. I'm not trying to make anyone else feel guilty but it has definitely made me take a second look. According to this source 80% of the worlds population lives on less than $10 a day. Doing some rough translation this is $3,650 a year or only slightly more than the cost of a Nikon D800E.

I can't emphasize enough that I am not trying to make anyone else feel guilty but this is enough to make me seriously consider if my investment in cameras and lenses is the best use of my resources.
