Palmate Newt in suspended animation mode.
For interest really. Ciontinueing with the newt work I put various weed in large tanks, photographed them and am trying them as back drops. This was a test. I use small home made tanks about 10 inches wide and high and about two inches back to front. I have various sizes and some are made using rubber tube for the small stuff. Whilst trying this out last night my little fried here hung in the water watching me. Quite nice I thought. I shall call him UKET

Very neat perspective especially with the webbing showing so well. I just wish the tail showed off a bit more

John, I love this. The colors are wonderful throughout and the centered position of the subject in this "alien" environment really works for me.

Just so I understand, you shot through the tank glass to get this shot?

What a cool shot! He does look like an alien. Excellent technical execution to produce this image. The soft green works extremely well.

Unbelievable macro shot! One of the finest I have seen in a long time. Suspended animation is right...now you just need to work on the title. I wouldn't necessarily complain if you cropped out the bright area along the top of the frame either.

Phil
Interesting about the light area at the top. As I think I mentioned underwater subjects are a pain to get a background that works. The reason I left it was because I thought it conveyed the sky above with the slight upward angle.
Plenty of room for experiment though.

John, you might have a good point there about the light area giving a hint of the sky. I think you've changed my mind!

Wonderful look as it seems to just hang in space John, a real eye catching pose!
I tried sort of the same thing awhile back, with a leopard frog floating on the surface..

For anyone interested these newts can regulate the position in the water by the amount of air they take in at the surface. Blow a bubble out and they sink a bit ! That's how they can stay suspended at any level. (I use a hypodermic syringe !! Joke !!)
Great little chaps !!

WOW, John! I saw the thumbnail of this a few days ago and forgot to comment, so forgive my tardiness. Have to say that this is superb work. And it's nice to see that breaking the "Rule of Thirds" can really work. Hats off to you!
