I'm not sure why, but after a short dry spell on NPN it's good to see this gallery churning again with lots of great imagery. I guess we all needed some time away from the computer.

I never decided to make returning here repeatedly a habit, but I keep talking myself into coming back again to this rocky little beach at Garrapata State Park. It is nice to really get to know a beautiful place under different conditions -- you start to understand her personality. This was right after a spring storm had passed through the central coast, and the sky to the west had opened up at just the right time. The water motion in the foreground actually isn't from the ocean, but instead from an ephemeral creek that ends here.

I would have liked to have gotten closer to the sea stacks but with the storm swell it was all I could do to keep my camera from getting soaked... and I failed at that after few minutes! Comments and critiques are greatly appreciated as always!

This is an interesting perspective here with the opposite flow from the creek into the ocean. The slight water movement across the static rocks adds another dimension to the scene, Mat. Great stormy cloud cover too.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have to say I am looking at this now and think the foreground could be a little darker.

Superb coastal scene, love the fg, the rocks and the light on the clouds! I would like to see a small boost in contrast, mainly on the fg. :toast:

Very nice capture Mat. I really like the perspective, and it looks like it would be difficult to keep your camera dry.

The surf looks impressive and I really like the light on those low clouds. Very nice Mat. I'm looking forward to a trip up the coast this summer.

Excellent, Mat. I really like the congruence between the warmth in the sky and that reflect in the stones.

Absolutely stunning seascape with a fabulous perspective. Love it that the stream is included in the foreground, as it tells the story of the cycle of water very well. Beautiful subdued, but radiant, color. :toast:

I love this beach. Man, those are some serious clouds. Great photo, Mat. I like what you've done with shooting the stream instead of those big chunky, foamy waves. Good stuff. :toast:

and that repost is even sweeter. Good work with darkening those tones.

Love the soft, warm tones and the cloud structure. The light glancing across the fg rocks is very nice.

From a composition stand point, there is a bit of a disconnect for me from the foreground to the background. That being said, your processing and those conditions look spot on. I personally like the original version better.
