White Orchids

White orchids from West Java Island. The photo is just 36 hours "hot". I captured these orchids during my very short (1 night) trip to Indonesia yesterday. Comment & suggestion and of course critique are most welcome.

Very nice Miro, I like the very dark background and the composition, nice to see both a sagittal view and a frontal view . Nice detail in the petals as well.

Nice one, Miro. The whites are well behaved and nicely textured. I am ambivalent about the OOF buds, but not much you could do about them and get what you got.

Miro: After all the fun I had with orchids earlier this year I especially like this comp and group. My only nit is the BG in the URC. If I tip my laptop screen a bit there is a significantly lighter area there and in a few other spots. Clean that up and you have a real winner.>=))>

Orchids are always fun to shoot. Thank you for your image.

My two cents...

<> In the top background there is something that is white that is slightly distracting.

<> Would like to see the 3 green pods near the bottom right corner in focus.

<> Separation between the white bottom portion of the full orchids and the green pod would have been great.

<> For my personal style, I would have tried to eliminate the partially shown orchid that is at the top & behind the full orchid. Given the shooting situation, impossible to achive most likley.

<> Regarding the orchid on the far left. I would have tried, if possible, to show more or all of its colorful center.

Beautiful photo of these White Orchids, Miro. Great use of the DOF and good choice of exposure. Placement along the diagonal is nice too.

Repost is an improvement but my monitor still shows a bit of the lighter stuff in background - but its not a deal breaker anymore.

Miro:
Fabulous shot. Had seen many of these taken with white bg and the dark bg in this image is certainly a welcome change. Amazing DOF and sharpness with F9. The bg does not bother me but would have like to see the darker parts of the stem brightened up slightly so as not to appear disjointed.

Whites look very nice, great light & colors.
The BG makes this beautiful flower grouping simply pop out of the frame.
Excellent image Miro :toast:

Perfect. Everything.

The various poses of the flowers let us see all the delicate structures from the different angles. Love that.

It it good to practice with this photo a bit more. I tried to satisfy all of you except focusing of that 3 pods bottom right (Rick), but I've managed to intensify the black BG which should be spotless now (Ram, Garry) and I've managed to brighten the dark stem parts. Result? See the 2nd repost.

Miro:
You 2nd rework is getting close to perfect. The stem on the right looks good but I prefer not to see the stem on the left side.

Miro - 2nd rework is indeed terrific. That is exactly how it should be. I am personally OK with the stem showing, but if you want a more artistic interpretation then the stem can go - but its not a major issue for me personally.

I agree with Bill's suggestion as to the lighter area in the URC. Other than that, this is really beautifully captured - very elegant feel to it. The blooms stand out very well against the dark BG, and you captured amazing detail in the whites. Love the centers of these orchids. Did you get any macro shots of the centers? Nice work!
