Weathered and Worn

Just returned from a quick family trip to Arizona. Was able to get out and shoot a bit. This is from the Grand Canyon, as many I'm sure recognized. Sunset light never did materialize but I was diggin this cloud and the weathered wood of this dead juniper, wonder how long it's stood there. As always thanks for taking a peek.

Very nice black and white image. The sky is perfect and I really enjoy the comp with the tree. I'd be tempted to bump the contrast up a little bit, but that is just personal preference.

That cloud is really neat. The textures in the canyon and tree are very interesting as well. For me, the overlap in gray scale values between the tree and the canyon walls makes it hard to appreciate the tree, might be worth a bit of dodging on the tree.

Kurt, What a great scene, and it looks wonderful in b/w.Those clouds are fantastic! Like Mark I do wish the tree could stand out a bit more from the canyon walls, but still this wonderful!! Seeing it larger might be all that would take. I like your processing alot and love the detail in this. :toast:

Extremely sharp image from front to back. I think it looks a little flat too, especially parts of the foreground where the tones seem to blend together. I like the composition and the sky looks great.

This scene is very well composed with multiple interesting elements but could do with a bit more contrast.

Real nice B&W scene, Kurt. I would agree with the suggestions to bump the contrast some and also to see if you can mask to get more separation between the tree and canyon.

Nice B+W. The scene is really incredible, and the lenticular clouds at the top are great. I agree with other comments about subject separation.

BTW, you have a great gallery. The seascapes look very well done, and not over-processed, IMO. Thanks for sharing!

Kurt, You caught some interesting clouds that work well in B&W. I might be inclined to crop just a little from the left so the gnarly tree is more off-centered and would frame the view a little more.
