Jackal with kill

We were returning after a full-day safari in the Yala NP in Sri Lanka and it was very late in the evening when we spotted a jackal with a kill in its mouth. Our guide thought it could be a mouse deer that had been killed. The jackal was in a tearing hurry to get it to its den in all probability. This constant movement and the fact that the light was murky made it all the more difficult to capture the image. This is full frame.
Species: Golden jackal (Canis aureus)
Location: Yala NP, Sri Lanka
Date: April 2012
Equip: Canon 7D, Canon 500 f4
Specs: ISO 3200, f7.1, 1/500s, hand held

Thank you for taking the time out to look, and for your comments/critiques.

Interesting photo. The jackel certainly seems to be concentrating on going somewhere! The one foot seems close to being cut off which is why I would like to see just a bit more space on the bottom of the photo. From the size of the feet I would agree with the guide about this being a mouse deer. Thanks for sharing.

those eyes are the eye catcher. i do think the left front leg is a bit too close to the bottom but being a FF there's nothing to do but adding some canvas in PP .

HI Ajit,

This one already looks like it has a full belly, so no wonder it's taking the food elsewhere! I did notice how tight the one foot is to the bottom of the frame - in a perfect world a tad more room there would be nice, but I know when your subject is filling this much of the frame it can be a challenge to get everything just right. Besides the foot I do think the subject is well-positioned in the frame. On my monitor the eyes look like they "pop" perhaps a tad too much - not sure if you did any post-processing work on them, but if you did perhaps backing off a little might make them looks a little more realistic (and even if you didn't do anything extra to the eyes it might be worth pulling them down in satiation and brightness anyway?? ).

Overall a nice capture - well done...

Cheers...

for my part I love those eyes Ajit!
a tad tight as mentioned - but hard to nail in bad light and in full motion with a fixed focal length lens
high ISO well handled

Love the capture of the capture Ajit! Agree with others about the space, but that didn't bother me much. the thing that stood out for me as far as a nit would go is the eyes seem weird. After writing that, I see Brad already commented on it and I felt exactly the same about them. They look unnaturally over-processed. not sure you even did anything to them, but that is how they appear on my monitor as well.
