Undulating, algae covered forms in the mudflats of Turnagain Arm, Alaska, one late spring day several years ago. Tried to bring out the textures and color in the algae and the remarkable sculptural quality of these mudflats. Turnagain Arm is one of the most amazing places in my opinion and one of many things about Alaska that I miss.
4x5, 210mm, warm polarizer, Ektachrome 100plus, M1 scan, TL masks and others.

Large image attached.

Really appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, ideas, and comments. Thanks.

Really a cool shot Vance. I like the blue vs green and the texture adds to the overall feel of the image. Looks like a shot for Velvia but I see you used Ektachrome. Great job!

Lovely, awesome color, pattern and texture. I also like the general lack of scale present in the frame, very cool shot Vance!

Very surreal Vance. The blue tones give this a chilling effect that is fresh to see.

What a great study of textures, shapes and patterns. I love the boldness of the green against the blue-grey, too. :toast:

Whoa, that is battery powered algae! I love the intense and complete coverage of color here, as well a the layers.

This also seems very clean for a tidal mud flat, I like it when that happens, eh?

Much thanks for all the nice comments on this image. I agree with you, Stan, that it could use a touch more brightness. Guess its that old habit to underexpose transparency film that I find hard to break, even in Photoshop work. Thanks again everyone, and Morris, this will definitely be in the book whenever that all comes together.

Really love your layered landscape of indeterminate scale. For me the green seems just a little too electric but of course I wasn't there.

What they said!! Amazing patterns and colors. I love the way that there are big ripples, small ripples in the big ripples, and tiny ripples in the small ripples. :toast:

Vance,

Fascinating natural abstract. I think you did very well in handling the greens - vibrant, but yet very real. Large version is killer!
