Rowena Morning...

Had a great morning the other day up on the plateau with David Thompson, Scott Miller, and Michael Bollino. Once we saw the condition were heading in our favor, we were hoot'n and howler'n. We couldn't have ask for a better morning, no wind, great clouds and good friends... doesn't get much better! Thanks for looking!

This is gorgeous! Great comp and processing. It might be an optical illusion, but it looks tilted CCW.

Very nice work - wonderful light!

I do have a question though - why ISO1600? Seems like an odd choice since now you have to contend with much more noise when you enlarge rather than at ISO100 - no? What am I missing?

Jason - I just felt I needed as much shutter as possible. When I say there was no wind, I guess I meant for the gorge, there was practically now wind, but things were moving. This wasn't really that slow of a scene as it unfolded either. The sun crested the mountain and quickly went behind another cloud. I knew that when it crested the cloud it would be an awesome opportunity for a really special sun star. I just decided to jack everything up as high as I feel comfortable fixing in PS. 1600 on the 5dMkII is very tolerable to me, imo. I like f16-22 for my blends because they tend to be easier to work front to back. It may not be ideal, but I am still learning efficiency on the blends. But I felt comfortable with this. And well, 22 for the sharpest sun star. Thank you...hope that answers you question.

Your spring WF posts have been like a firework show, all building to this grand finale (err, I think?). I almost passed out seeing these on your LCD and knew you had something special but MAN, how sweet this is! The light, comp, etc. is exceptional but I really like the subtle touch of light coming through the distant canyon :toast: :toast:

Gorgeous. You achieved some great balance between the golds in the foreground and those in the sky. The only thing slightly "off" to me is the dark gap on the right edge. The lack of yellow in there makes it feel a tick unbalanced, but that's pretty minor.

As I noted, this one's massive Jeremy. While I love the way the Klickitat is lit, the sunstar, the cloud drama, etc., what I really like is the amazing bunch of balsamroot you caught with that perfect light. Perfection! (Looks like the blending is working well too.)

Thank you all.

Max - Thank you. I think the darker spot on the bottom right is what you're talking about. I did try cropping in closer to the flowers, but for me, it seems to throw the image outta whack a bit with losing the tree right above it in the sky line and shifting the sun over to the right too much.

John - Blending is coming along pretty good. There is still a lot I intend learn, but I am starting to feel happy with the progress I'm getting. Well, almost. I still hope to finally line something up with you this season. Take care.

You killed it this morning, Jeremy - I should have stayed that night, and your shot is the one that has me kicking myself (and hating you). I love the darker processing and that 16-35 sunstar. Perfect blending work. One of your best, in my opinion - and maybe the best Rowena wildflower shot of anyone's this year. Zero complaints!

I used three different images and just blended the best parts of all three. One for the forground, one for the mid-ground, and one for the sky. Some dodging and burning here and there. thanks!
