Had an amazing 5 day journey from the west coast of Fl to the east coast shooting the whole time. Met up with Melissa Groo and a few others and had as much fun as is possible. We found a water hole on this night that had stilts so we drug ourselves thru the muck and mud and shot to sundown. This was close to the end of the day into the night providing us with some glorious light. My MIII is in the shop again (yes I know) so I shot with my 40D and was re confirmed that it too is a pretty amazing body.
Canon 40D 300mm 2.8 L lens w/2x
ISO 640 f7.1@1/500 tripod
cropped about 10% for slight rotation
C&C always appreciated

I love this specie, it's slim and beautiful. Nice pose. TFS.

Beautiful pose and reflection in a lovely setting. My only concern is that the whites look slightly blown out although there is more detail in the larger version. As a non-expert on stilts, perhaps they just really look this way.

A shot that emphasizes the elegance of this lovely species. But I'd agree the whites on the belly anf neck could come down a bit. Some time with the Highlight tool or a re-import with ACR?

A great low look at this bird Cheryl. Love the mud on the back foot and the pose. In the larger version there seems to be a lack of the very fine detail I would like to see. Maybe just the smallest amount of motion caused this given your 1/500s SS. I can't see it being the crop given you have 90% of the frame in this shot. The whites do look a bit bright in the areas mentioned by others. Overall a very pleasing image.

Hey all thanks for the feedback . I am dissapointed with the softness as I love the pose and colors and light.
