Bald Eagle Portrait

Olympus E-5, 300mm x 2.0TC, braced car window
f8, 1/320, ISO800

A Bald Eagle defending a salmon carcass from gulls, crows, ravens and other eagles. In the pouring rain. Not a flattering shot, I fear, but the closest I've ever been to a wild eagle.

Full frame. Usual sharpening drill. Noise reduction to background.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Well, maybe not flattering from a beauty standpoint but it sure evokes a real sense of defending his ground. That's a pretty intense look he (or she) is projecting. Great detail, well composed and exposed. I'd like it in my portfolio.

I think it's pretty cool looking, Jim! I love the open beak, it gives a sense of what's happening. I also think the rain streaking in the background is a bonus.

A very "real" look at a moment in this bird's life. I love it.

What a portrait, like it a lot ! You can easily see the water on the bird's feathers, which adds to the overall atmosphere. Impressed ! Cheers, Hans

Good that you got so close for this portrait, Jim. That open beak and intense eye really make this.

Great close-up! Stands out from the usual eagle portrait. Thanks for sharing, hope you didn't get too wet.
