Barred owl

This image is almost full frame. I want people to understand that this and my other barred owl images were taken during the period of time when these birds were establishing and maintaining their breeding territories. So, they were still out and active during the very early mornings and late evenings.

Please view the larger version for maximum detail. Thanks so much.

Well done, Ron. The detail is good, the light is excellent and the owl stands out well from the BG. An expert handling of what had to be a difficult shot.

Very impressive, as always. Nice getting this naturally without calling or baiting.

Great shot to get the owl in flight. I would only have preferred a faster shutter speed and perhaps smaller aperture to try to get the entire owl totally sharp if possible. Outstanding work!

Jay, thanks so much for your comment. This image was taken at first light with ISO 1000. I too would love to have fast SS and closed down apertures all the time, but when the light is low you have very little flexibility. Getting to f/5.6 at 1/1600s was all I could muster. .

Yet another great shot in what looks like tough conditions. Only the wingtips are not perfectly sharp and i don't see that as a problem. Head & eye are very strong points.
