Plenty of bear activity lately in my neck of the woods, resulting in some rather close, but safe encounters.

As always, comments & suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Awesome image! Nice to have the catchlight in the bear's eye. Looks like you have some great detail in the fur, too. The out of focus branch to the left of the frame is kinda distracting to me.

Oh man, Guy...this is a beautiful portrait of one of my very favourite species on the planet. Stunning. It's very moody and dramatic as presented. I like the "lost" shadows/blacks, and love how he is looking into the light. Exquisite detail where you want it, too. This one's top shelf for me...I'd buy it, but my walls are going to be threatened to show any paint at all with four kids into wildlife photography!

Well done! I do like the pose of the bear. Nice detail in the head and coat. Thanks for sharing.

This is a beauty Guy! This portrait is all about the muzzle and the eye to me as they stand out so well against that dark fur. The composition works well and the DOF is very pleasing. The only thing that is just ever so slightly distracting to me is the light OOF diagonal band in the BG left of the bear. But now I am really looking for something to pick on. Great portrait! :toast:

Thanks for the comments everyone - I completely agree about the oof branch, a bit distracting.
