24 Hours

What's with the title you may wonder? Well I just wanted to draw your attention to the fact that recently the NPN posting limit has changed from 48 to 24 hours! This means that you can now post an image in the same gallery 24 hours after you last did. This should help increase the number of posts per gallery and therewith make the gallery more interesting.

Btw, please do also post more comments if you post more images.

About this image: same hippo, same time and place, but a totally different image. I know this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but personally I liked the graphic nature of this and particularly the silhouetted ears. Looking forward to hear your honest opinions on this though.

Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius)
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Camera Model Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Shutter Speed 1/4000 Sec.
Aperture Value f/6.3
ISO Speed 400
Lens EF500mm f/4L IS USM + 1.4xTC
FF

Vincent, this is a stunning shot! I absolutely love it! The comp, the pose, the wonderful lighting, it all works together perfectly. I know some people may disagree, but I quite like the room on the bottom. In fact, if you had cut the space on the bottom, I probably would've asked for more. Therefore, I think all the space on the bottom actually helps the image!

I think this is great! Totally love those slightly glowing ears  I'm also a fan leaving big space and with hippos, below is often the most interesting place for it.. And then the backlit water twinkling just adds that extra.. Beautiful :toast:

While I am no expert on hippo photography, this strikes me as a totally menacing image. The dark features on the front of the face and the silhouetted ears would strike terror in me if I were anywhere in the vicinity of this beast. Terrific minimalist photograph that makes you wonder what's going to happen next.

I love this. I really dig all the out of focus patterns in the foreground and background. And thank goodness for the backlit ears, which help set the head apart from the background.

The ears are key! I also appreciate the bubbly nature of the highlights. If I were framing for the wall, I think I would choose to remove some from bottom and right.

Well, this is certainly my cuppa, Vincent! Fabulous shot! I like the extremely shallow dof and that vertical shaft of light descending from the hippo is surreal!
