Passion for Purple

This image was captured hand-held in a slight breeze. I had to wait for the calm moments to capture this beautiful iris. I chose a very shallow depth of field to show of the nice lines in this flower. Shot details: Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon 100mm Macro lens, iso 1000, f/2.8, 1/1000. I would appreciate any feedback you could offer on this image.

Thanks,
Jake

Jake, I like the way you captured this flower. Nice colors & background. well focused under breeze. I wish if there is no white area in the right bottom corner. I would move bit to my right & get a another image to see how it looks like. Anyway its beautiful shot. Regards Manoj :toast:

Hi Gary :wavey: I would have made a tighter crop .: The OF white on the top petals is distracting........ this is not working for me

I like the colors and the view of the edges Jake, but I am having a bit of a hard time connecting with the shot. Maybe I am not seeing enough of the bloom? Maybe it is that I am seeing a bit of the flower with green BG on both sides. I am not quite sure.

Keep them coming!

Irises are difficult subjects. The OOF areas and variations of focus are making me dizzy! :jump:

Jake:
Good plane of focus on the edge of two petals. This is obvious the center of attention in the image and the left quarter of the image is not contributing much. I would experiment with different crop to sharpen the point of focus.

The sharpness is amazing as is the use of iso 1000.

Lovely colors and wavy lines ... maybe cut out the back oof and crop around your main subject?
