My better half took this Saturday while I wasn't looking, and I like how she composed this to show the bud.
All comments and critique welcome and sought.

You'll have to give your wife a two thumbs up for me
Very different comp with main subject in deep shadow, & the bud ULC with filtered light.
Have a great Memorial Day

Interesting, Bob. I actually prefer this image without the bud. The magnolia is beautiful, with sharp detail throughout. The flower stands out well from the dark green BG. To me, the sunlit bud up in the corner is a distraction. I'd crop the left side to the edge of the bud, crop a little off the right to balance the comp, clone the bright spot in the remaining ULC, and make this image all about the white flower. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the image as taken by your wife and posted here. It's a fine image. My preference is purely subjective. It just shows how people can see things differently with no right or wrong answers.

Bob: I kind of like the bud and I definitely like the light on it. It is a strong enough element though that it does pull the eye some from the main subject. I would crop some from the right and bottom to fill the frame a bit more with the flower and give the bud just a touch more emphasis secondarily. I would also pull up the white point a bit. On the original there are no whites above 230 on the histogram so you can coax a bit more brightness and punch from it. >=))>

Bob - This is terrific - your wife is talented. I really like the inclusion of the bud here and Bill's re-work. In addition I think there is a bit of a Cyan-Green Cast to the whites which might be natural and coming from the light reflected from the foliage.

Robert:
Two talented members in the family. My wife dabbles in photography every now and then and accompanies me on shots. I am always amaze that she can spot or look at scene so completely from my approach.
Lovely capture here. Before reading the rest of the comments, I thought the bud was distracting but I also like Bill's re-work. The magnolia of course is beautifully captured. Love to see more offerings from your better half.

Bob this photo is nice but I still prefer the previous one with warmer light. I like the composition with the small bud. Well done.
