I tried something different in lighting this little one and used an off camera led video light from below and to the left to supplement the daylight. Not sure if it was too much. Taken at 11AM so the light was pretty harsh already.

Canon 5DMIII, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 1/250 at f/11, ISO 400 Manual exposure

Thank you for any comments and critique

I think the lighting experiment did fine. Those little lights are fun to play with and very handy. You got a pretty good pose from the hopper but some minor issues hurt the overall image. I would have liked to have seen more of the insect in focus. This looks just like the head and closest antenna are sharp. A little more closure on the aperture would have helped. You easily could have gone higher on your ISO to compensate. Also, you should have framed it slightly more open so the end of his wing isn't cut off and the closest hind leg. But I know sometimes you have to get what you can get as these guys can fly away in a heartbeat. Thanks for posting.

Good job with the hard light Hali, nice details at the head/thorax too.
It looks like your led light assist helped out here..
The best light for macro is moderate to light overcast as you know..That's when I look for my bugs
The tightness of the comp at the bottom & Rt side do hurt this some to be honest.

No problem with the light, Hali. Your LED fill light worked well. The background works as well. I do agree with Howard that a little more room behind the subject may have been preferable in this profile view.
