Long-jawed Orbweaver

Long-jawed orb weavers (Tetragnathidae) and true orb-weavers (Araneidae) are the only common kinds of spiders that make orb webs. The webs of most other kinds of spiders appear disorganized compared to orb webs.
Seen here beneath a thistle bud..
F/18, 1/10th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + Kenko 1.4x ext & fill.

Interesting angle to catch this guy; I like it and the overall comp you gave this. Your focus is spot-on with great details in the spider with a nice clean background. Very nice!

Another excellent image, Howard. I like the unique perspective of this interesting spider and the clean BG. Thanks also for the background info. It motivated me to process and post an Orbweaver image of my own which I took last week. :toast:

Howard - Excellent - you did an awesome job coming parallel to the Spidy here. The spikes from the Thistle perfectly complement the long legs of the Spider.

Great perspective and the focus is excellent. Really nice bg to allow all the attention to the thistle spikes and that cool spider. Nice angle to the thistle as well.

Excellent piece of photography, Howard. I was out looking for this species when I photographed the Dung Fly.

Nicely disguised as a small twig. I like the graphic nature of the image with the linear spider and lines and stripes in the thistle and it's spines.
