Katydid on Geranium

I am hoping that the small green insect is called Katydid. In an ideal world I'd compose it better with more space on the right, slightly more DOF and all that usual stuff. It was so damn windy that out of 15 shots, I got just one critically sharp.

ND300s, AFD 200mm F/4 Micronikkor with 36mm of ET, F/11, 1/60 Sec, ISO400, Diffuser and Tripod.

Comments/Suggestions always appreciated.

I can't help with the I.D., Ram, except to note that these insects also are native to Ohio. I know because I photographed one last weekend on one of my orange oriental poppies. The only type of katydid with which I am familiar is much larger (you can see a photo of one which I posted a few months ago in my gallery), but I think you are correct that this is some type of katydid or grasshopper. Anyway, I like the green insect on the contrasting purple geranium. The green background under the geranium also blends in well with the nice colors. The detail looks good to me and excellent use of the diffuser to help balance the light.

Thanks Scott. I believe the correct ID is Scudder's Bush Katydid Nymph.

Great job under windy conditions Ram, pleasing colors and the flower contrasts your nymph well.
Details and DOF look good, your diffused light worked well to fill-in & still maintain a natural look overall.
Only tiny nit pick's the rt rear foot near frame edge. Very minor though..
Well done! :toast:

Great job Ram, especially under windy conditions, nicely lit, and great color and texture contrasts between the flower and the katydid.

I like the color combination with the green insect against the magenta flower. Those antennae are pretty amazing.
