Gotta love that red granite on the Maine coast. The processing looks a bit chunky. I think the shadows are bit blocked up. I notice you are using f/16 with 17mm lens. I wonder if you are hitting the point of dimensioning return because of diffraction. Testing my 24-85 lens with my Nikon D700 showed me that closing beyond f/11 at 24 gave me worse results. Also while I commonly used a polarizer with film I rarely use it with digital unless I'm trying to knock down reflections.

Bill,

I like your coastal composition - nice, complimentary sky but clearly you wanted to showcase the geology features of shoreline. I kinda see what David is referring to when he said processing looks a little "chunky." Actually, it could be as simple as compression/data loss getting to the web; but always tough to judge on these smallish web sizes. Very nice image.

Thanks for your comments! Lon, I think you're right about why it looks a bit "chunky"--every time I downsize these big (40+mp) pan images with lots of small details, they end up looking that way. The full res image looks much smoother. Dave, I agree about the polarizer, in this case I was using it to knock down reflections on the rocks and the water.
