Mountain Mahogany on a slope of the Big Horns overlooking the red wall country. I really like the shape of the tree and the sense of isolation. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

Hi Nancy,

I can see what drew your attention with these seemingly wind-swept trees. They don't necessarily come across as isolated though and I think that may be because you're filling much of the frame with the trees and so we don't see the expanse that these guys are a part of. I like the layered background and that looks scenic and expansive too, but now the trees block much of the view. So in other words, not enough landscape to get the feeling of isolation (remember, I wasn't there to experience this either,) and too much tree for the landscape. Hope that makes sense. Lastly, you might pull back on the blue and magenta in the bg.

I agree with Lon and have struggled with exactly what seems to have happened here. You find a cool tree and want to emphasize it but finding the perfect balance of place and subject can be tough.

Definitely a neat tree and a fascinating background. My suggestion for more isolation of the tree, would be to squat down. I too find trees like this to be very challenging subjects.
