Wildcat Light

Thanks for your thoughts and impressions on my last Yosemite abstract image.

Here is a more traditional waterfall/cascade image. This also from the same spring trip to Yosemite in May. We actually worked these little falls a couple of times during our stay. You'll recognize the area from Chris' image that he posted a couple weeks back. I've photographed this area many times and was glad to find something I hadn't done before.

Would love to hear your comments and critiques.

thanks!
Lon

Wow! Fantastic. Beautiful comp and I love the highlightes in the falls and the dark bg really sets this off, especially seen in the large version. For me your shutter speed was perfect. What a wonderful feel this has. I could look at this one all day...

I like the play of light through the falls and the choice of shutter speed. Very simple and elegant.

Beautifully captured. the light through the falling water is stunning and the rock in the center anchors this nicely. A exceptionally well balanced image. Very nice

I think this is nicely done. The textures and light are very appealing. May sound weird, but the black background feels no quite right. Sort of feel like it's showing up in the picture instead of the picture actually just having black in it. I sort of like this better as the thumb in your gallery against the white background.

Beautiful! Looks like you got the exposure just right. Know it's falling water, but it looks like filtered light coming down to bath the rocks from above, while a pool of light illuminates them from below. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

Well done and serene in it's simplicity. To my taste the water is perfect, it's flowing but has texture throughout.

nice job controlling the light in this one Lon. I really like the glimmers on the left. As Tony mentioned, the background does seem exceedingly dark.

I agree with Tony about this showing better with the white background. It brings out more of the highlights, instead of the background to me. Still, another fine image from you, Lon!

Oh, and a tiny nit would be to clone out the bright water streak in the middle of the dark rock. It doesn't go with the rest of the water falling there.

I particularly like the texture of the water at the base of the falls.

I'm a sucker for intimate waterfall scenes and this is beautiful. I especially like the slight glow of light coming in from the left and highlighting the water drops. :toast:

Lon, it is a great pleasure for me to explore the interplay of light and shadow in your image, as well as the sketchy textures of the rocks. A subtle and sensitive point of view to my eye.

Thanks for the comments folks, I appreciate it.

@TK and Youssef - I see what you mean about the dark and background. Funny, I think this is the first time I've even used the black bg when posting. I definitely can see how this leads to your comment. Perhaps I could manage some new detail in there... ;-)

Morris - I was wondering if anyone would comment on that little streak. I thought about cloning it out, and probably will if this ever sees print.

thanks again folks!

Lon
