Decided to shoot galaxy at White Pockets. I got up very early and walked in there. Even with the help of GPS, I could not figure out the exact location I scouted during the day. Fortunately, this is White Pockets, I can just setup my camera and shoot in any direction. It will turn out just fine

Surreal and alien looking, even more than most from here. I did a very similar WP shot a few years ago on my site now. I'd like to see more detail in the Summer Constellations themselves in the upper portion, particularly the shadow areas. I think if more detail is in the files that would help balance the composition by extending the arch more into the direction that the lines are leading.

Thanks, Marc. You are right. There is more detail there. I will go back to give it a boost.

Very unique and other worldly which is just what I like. I feel as if the darker areas surrounding the milky way should be much brighter which I think Marc sorta addressed with the detail in the dark's. Still need to find some time to make it up here when the skies are dark this summer and catch a monsoon storm.

An excellent and unique way to show this area. I like it a lot!
The toning seems a bit 'Twilight Zonesque' to me, but that just may be my taste.
Did you have moonlight on this evening to help light the foreground?
I would be interested in any tech. specs you could provide.

I love it! very dramatic image. For the composition, maybe I would like a bit more sky, or a vertical perhaps. Did you have some moonlight for the land?

John,

Quite out of this world-ly. Fantastic night photography, combined with the surreal nature of WP and you've got a wonderful image.

Outstanding shot! One of the best I've seen from here. It's hard to tell from the small web size but it looks like the corners may be soft, causing the stars to be distorted. You don't provide the specs, but this can be caused by opening all the way up on a f1.2 or 1.4 lens, so I'll often shoot at f1.8 instead. The effect is actually pretty cool here, with fewer and bigger stars on the side, so it may be a good thing. But it's harder to tell how it would hold up at larger sizes. Only real nit at this size is that there's only one star visible in the upper left had corner, which seems a bit odd.

Thanks for the comments from all of you.

Grant: The stars were shot with F2.8. I don't know why UL corner has less stars.
