Meditations

I recently brought my 2 nephews on there 2nd annual backcountry experience in NH's White Mountains. I think they are jazzed to go next year if I can just get them away from the organized sports and video games! I escaped for a predawn shot from Garfield Ridge looking across the Whites of NH's to the Mahoosucs of ME. The most peaceful time on the ridge, as dayhikers make this one of the busiest and crowded trails in the area. I guess for good reason, the views into the Pemi Wilderness are pretty spectacular. I intentionally kept the FG mountain (Garfield) a bit dark with a hint of detail to help convey the abstract mood.
I have considered a tighter crop off the left, wondering your thoughts on that.

I just love these layered landscapes and never tire of them. (Probably because I've yet to see or photograph a scene like this.) Personally, I wouldn't consider a crop from the left - wondering why? If anything, I'd shave some off the bottom to make this even a bit more of a pano. I don't know if this matters to you or anyone else, but I think it was pretty important that the second ridge just barely clears the front ridge and there's no merge or overlap - it's real close though!
The orange/red in the sky is a little strong for my taste, but then there's that creative license and personal choice thing again.
Lovely and strong landscape.

Lon - I saw that problem as I composed. Hiking lower on the ridge would hide the small peak that pops up behind- hiking up the ridge I was on would position me so that I would be shooting away from the most intense part of the sky. This was my compromise. I wish that the gentle slope behind the main ridge of Garfield didn't line up exactly, but there was no way I was moving that!
