Olympus E5, ZD300f2.8, 2xTC, ISO200, f5.7, 1/250 resting on vehicle window

Found this young Short-eared Owl about 6:30AM today, and both its parents were sitting on posts nearby. They all hung tight for photos, so that was neat. I guess I missed the younger ages this year as this one is almost fully mature. They weren't this mature last year until about a month from now. Also about a 50% crop.

All wild and natural - no setups or baiting ever

Love the eye contact and BG here.
I think a vertical would work better here.

A fine image. Great subject; nice technicals; a pleasing posture and composition.

Great eye contact here David, I think this would work well with a vertical crop. :toast:

What a great opportunity and of course you fully capitalized on the situation. The tawny background color works beautifully with the owl. Nice feather detail and a great pose. :toast:

Love that face! Great BG, fine detail, and the soft colours really emphasize the juvie nature of this little guy.
I personally hate bird poop in an image, but... I guess that's MY problem!

Terrific eyecontact, Dave. Love the intense expression on the owl's face. Wonderful background to go with the image. I like the repost better. :toast:
