Kirkjufell
by Ruben Vicente
Definitely one of my favorite spots in Iceland, Grundarfordur.
This image shows Kirkjufell, an impressive mountain by the sea. The sun was setting and I was walking down this black sand beach to photograph Kirkjufell with the best possible framing.
I set up my tripod close to this algae to fill the foreground and after the first shot I just noticed how fast the water was rising. The beach is almost all horizontally level and the water rised that fast! I had time for this shot and another one before going back to my car, otherwise I would get flooded =)
In the end I think the approaching water is a very nice add-on to the image.

6 commentsWelcome to NPN and look forward to more of your contributions. Comp wise I do not understand the cutting off the base of formation. The inclusion of the algae seems odd to me also but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Keep on Shooting
I have to say this isn't one that really grabs me. The late light on the hillside is wild and I feel that is the main attraction. If I may be so presumptuous I feel this is a case where your creativity has been moulded by convention rather than responding to the scene organically.
I have been in this situation many times when I have a killer subject right in front of my eyes, but "traditional landscape thinking" has me running around for something to fill the foreground with...
I hope you don't mind these honest words, but I feel they are worth saying :-)
