Mother of the Northwoods

I'm pretty excited to share this one! The lake was abnormally high this year, which made it a bad time for nesting loons. After searching all of the usual spots, I spotted a female loon tucked away in the trees of an almost completely submerged island. I silently brought the boat in and slowly got off into the cold water. After carefully setting up the tripod, the mother loon stayed on the nest, and after a short period of acclimation, didn't even acknowledge my presence. It was such a wild experience being able to see these birds up close! Thanks for looking! By the way, something is a little off with the smaller version this time around. Please view LARGE :)

This is busy scene but works for my eye. Shows the habitat well and good use of thirds for position. :toast:

Joe: This image really tells a very nice story. You're right the smaller version is not nearly up the quality of the larger version. Nice capture.

Good storying telling photograph. Glad you were able to get the shot without disturbing the loon. Thanks for sharing.
