This one helped me darned near fill a 1G flash card! Out of all the shots of the brilliant orange wings from above, I keep returning to this one of the softly shaded underwing and creamy white body.

Fantastic butterfly shot, Maureen! I, too, am drawn to the unusual position (pretty normal actually, but we never seem to post them perched facing downward). The image has a very dimensional look, and the bloom's blue is so vibrant. I can see how you'd fill up that card with this fellow! :toast:

Upside down is a bit disorienting but this is certainly a beautiful shot.

Thanks for the comments. I should have mentioned - the head-downward perch is a trademark of the Ruddy Daggerwing. Out of nearly 200 shots of this critter today, I have less than a dozen with the bug facing upward.

This is lovely. Sharp where it counts and the blue Salvia really adds to the picture. Well done! :toast:

Wonderful color and clarity. I love those creamy and diffuse backgrounds. I think of Chagall, but there are many other examples I'm sure.

I think this is the same trick the hairstreaks use of trying to misdirect a predator into attacking the "wrong" end.
