Cockrell Butterfly Center, Houston Museum of Natural Sciences

I haven't visited the butterfly center in some time so I indulged myself this morning. This is a fantastic facility with a wonderful variety of local and exotic species. Lighting and BG can often be a challenge but this little guy perched and posed quite nicely when a cloud passed overhead. One cannot use a tripod but monopods are OK. My new 3 Legged Thing tripod has a detachable leg that converts to a monopod so this was my first chance to try it out. Thanks to it and the Steady Shot feature in my camera I got quite a few sharp shots despite the slow SS. More to come. All comments welcome.>=))>

Good capture of this attractive butterfly, Bill. Nice detail throughout the BF. The very interesting eye is particularly remarkable in the larger version. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing what else you came away with. :toast:

Great shot of the Orange Tip Bill, the b-fly house conditions sure don't make it easy..and that's an understatement.
I tried this same Cockrell Center 5 or 6 years ago, was mostly disappointed with the results.
Nice job here :wavey:

Bill:
Fabulous capture. The sharpness of the pattern on the eyes are just amazing. Wish this is one of mine.

Terrific sharpness in the critter, especially in that interesting eye. Excellent work with the monopod.
