Hi,

My first post here in the Landscape Forum.
This was captured earlier this year during an eight day visit to Yellowstone in winter. It's from the Norris Geyser Basin.

Thanks for looking.

Welcome, and a nice opening shot. Let me also encourage you to comment on other's photos. We try to maintain about a 5 comment to every 1 post of an image as a recommended ratio.

I like the conversion, and your pp seems to have brought out every nuance in the smoke. Lots of drama in this.

Welcome to NPN Nigel, and very enjoyable first post. B&W seems to have been an excellent choice for this image. As Morris said, lots of drama here. Well done.

Wonderful backlighting - like the abstract nature of it. Great title too. Not much I would change - you've held highlights and Ok that the shadows hhave gone dark (trees). :toast:

Excellent image, Nigel. This has more of an abstract feel to it as I find myself focusing more on the tonal variation in the scene which you have brought out so nicely.

Great image! Black and whites are quite difficult to pull off in many ways, but you did an excellent job with this one. Welcome to the Landscape Forum.

Adamseque, I would say. This is really nicely done. Love the drama of the light and the monochrome. Welcome to the gallery.

Well done - really like the B & W conversion. I'd love to see this one large for more detail.

Graet sense of atmosphere and lighting working it's way through the smoke. Perhaps it offers to little glimpse of the landscape behind but still very pleasing.

Welcome to NPN, Nigel. Presenting this in b&w really brings out the otherworldly drama in all the steam. I like your square crop with the diagonal of heavy steam and the triangle of clear view towards the museum.
