Mixed light

Hi,

This is not as it seems, my first post here, I just saw that all my images posted here disappeared, but not because I didn't check the box bellow.

The location where I shot this is from Norway, Lofoten islands, Summer 2012

This scene revealed to our eyes late in the night-morning, after we were driving all night in rain, in the search of an interesting place. Then we came to this "hidden" place, very close to the road. We took the tripods out and waited. I knew that "something" is about to happen after the rain will stop.

Any comments are welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks,
Serban

Gorgeous landscape. The light is terrific. I have a minor reservation about the rock on the right.

I like this very much, except the chunky construct on the RHS, which adds nothing to the whole and is a distraction in my opinion.

Thank you for your critics. I included intentionally the rock on the right because it balanced ok the brink on the left. Also, for me it adds interest to the right part, of course, it would be desirable to occupy less space in the frame. I have other compositions, more classic from there, I don't find them as interesting as this one.

Tech info: Nikon D800E, f/11, 1/5 sec, ISO 100, 19mm, WB daylight, Lee ND soft filter, I think it was 3 stops. Shot with "Neutral" picture control setting on the camera and applied a simple S curve in Nikon Capture NX2, saturation. I can say I'm very happy to say that the camera preserved very well the tones of scene, which were unique for me, even though I encountered the same conditions.

beautiful light and scenery. you balanced the exposure very well! i agree with the others regarding the rock. would have been great to either see the whole thing, or nothing of it.

best,
joerg

This is sweet, Serban. I especially like the reflected golden light on the mountain. Excellent composition in dramatic lighting and your processing looks great.

Wonderful light Serban. The dark reflection of the rock on the right could be lightened a bit I think. That dark cornor drags the eye over there and away from the gorgeous light in the sky and reflection.

Many thanks again, guys.
Eva, I never thought of that, but I tried it; I brighten the part mentioned and I brought back more of the shadows, compensated the lost saturation. I like it better now. I included the edited version. The composition stays like it is for now  , as it was a conscious decision. I do agree that the composition there could've been further tweaked in the field. To include the whole rock it wouldn't have been very good because it is much bigger.

That is the squarest chunk of huge rock I've ever seen! I does blend in better in the repost, but is still a bit of an eyesore for me. Nevertheless, the overall scene is exceptional due to the light and all of the different elements included.

Great light and place, Serban. I like the initial post better as the darker mood makes the light shine better. You could try to get a little more red an magenta into the yellows. Might make the light look a little deeper and the vegetation a bit more juicy.

Thank you Andreas for your suggestions. I'll try them and probably stick to Eva's and yours.

Here is the version with which probably I will stick to. I thought also of cropping a little bit on the right to give just a little less importance to the rock but it doesn't work for me very well.
I thank you very much for the suggestions. In the end I enhanced a little bit the contrast in the clouds, water. I subtracted some green from the light on the clouds and the wall. Brighten up the reflection of the rock in the water. Made greener the greens, reduced the lightness of the grass in the pond so it is greener. It is still warm, but that what the light that was lighting the scene in the end: a mixed light.

The bigger image (900px) I uploaded it here http://whytake.net/NatureImages/165/11371/1/1
