Swallow-tailed Kite in Hernando Country, Florida

1/640 at f8 and ISO400 EC+1/3
Canon 500mm with 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

The Kite is in open shade and a bit of a steep angle but it is the first one I have ever seen at roost. I usually see them soaring high in the sky so was delighted to get this one at rest

Nice Scott,
Great capture for the conditions and these guys are very hard to find poising and cleaning their feathers like you have done.

I enjoy preening shots...you caught him at the perfect moment! This does seem a little dark however...can you pull any more detail out of the shadows? (It looks like you can).

Nice preening pose of a great Kite. A bit dark as posted.

great pose, Scott, and neat to see one of these perched. the pose makes the steep angle look fine here. I agree about trying to pull out a little more detail in the darks, and would perhaps especially try to lighten the eye a bit.
