White on White

I liked Mark's work using a white BG, so I went out and gave it a go this morning. I used a large white poster board as the backdrop here.
Not sure exactly what wildflower this is, will ID later..
I can tell you that the bloom is fairly small @ < 1" in width.
These are live wildflowers, not cut - Shot where the grow, slightly above ground level.
F/11, 1/250th, ISO 400, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with natural light around 10:00am.

I like the arrangement and the BG. Good leading lines on a nice curve. The main flower, however, is pretty lacking in detail. White on white is tough.

I actually see quite a lot of detail in the main flower...sometimes some monitors lose whites...my husband has a very large imac with a much better monitor than my laptop, but for some reason everything looks overexposed on his. This is also very gracefully composed!

Howard - No problem here with details on the White Flower - they are all well seen. I guess it might vary from monitor to monitor.

Like the drooping stems and you handled the highkey background admirably well.

Good idea, Howard, and a lovely specimen. Wish all was in focus on such a clean, spotless bg and maybe a little more contrast.

Excellent comp/arrangement, Howard. I like it a lot. I like the well placed, curving stems. The lighting looks good to me. I also think the whites look good. My only suggestion, on an arranged image like this, would be to consider using a higher fstop (or stacking) and getting everything sharp (in this case, both stems) because there is no competing BG.

The whites look good on my monitor as well. I like the mix of bud, budding, and blossom.

Howard:
I like the graceful curve stems and the exposure of the white is spot on with good details. Like Scott I also wish the upper stem was in focus but this is minor.

Have a look at the Meet Your Neighbours project. Using a flash in the back and front will really bring out the character of the flower and make these white background images shine.

I do own a soft-top for my 580EX flash, but will need to buy a second flash to try it that way..
