This guy/gal was in a pine tree in my backyard along with several dozen of his/her relatives. It had just started to move it's wings getting ready for take off when I shot this image. I appreciate all comments and critiques.

Canon 30D
Sigma 70-300
Aperture Priority
Shutter 1/350
Aperture f8
ISO 800
263mm
Very slight color correction in PSE9

Great capture of both movement and stillness in this photo, Richard. I like the good details in the head and then the wonderful blurred background. The blurred wings with the curvy motion lines really give a sense of movement. He is hanging on tight with his front legs while those wings whirl; looks like he is revving up for take-off! Nice comp and perch.

I like this, Richard. Great perspective. I like the wing action and tack sharp face. Very cool shot. :toast:

Nice image. I like the color combination and the soft contrast look. The composition is off-centered just enough to work.

Cool shot Richard, really like the motion blur of the wings you've shown us here.
Color, exposure, and details look great, neat head-on POV too :toast:
