I realize the trees are a problem in terms of effective composition but these were the last of the lupines this year and I really wanted to include them. I took the trade off, but I'm wondering if it was a sentimental mistake. Any thoughts or suggestions? As always, thanks for looking

A nice fg and I like how the trees frame the rainbow. Some softer light on the scene as a whole would have been even better, but you can't control teh appearance of a rainbow

Nancy, I think you did quite well here. This scene has a nice pleasing (almost comforting) feel about it. The rainbow of course just adds to it. I agree with Jorne that some softer light would probably have been nice, but this is what there was and you did well with it! I enjoy looking at this...

The rainbow seems to be dripping with color. Maybe you can crop your way into a tighter comp. I used the browser window to do so and I think it helped.

I like the comp with your framing of the rainbow. I understand the pull of putting flowers this beautiful in the scene somehow. I think you did pretty well considering the bright light. The clouds could use some more detail in them, if you can bring that out. And a slight crop off of the right to eliminate the dark spot in the lrc. In fact, if you crop some off of the top, too, to just above the rainbow brings more prominence to the flowers and foreground and eliminates some of the bright sky.

The trees make a nice frame to the light bg and rainbow. you might even try a square crop along the left edge of the left tree, removing the blown out sky in the upper left. would make a nice square shot.
