This image was shot with my new Lensbaby Composer Pro Double Glass lens with my Nikon D300. I've had this about one month. If you think you can simply snap this lens on your camera and produce great images, think again (-:

I've been shooting almost daily with about a total of 1,000 images and have just started to get a little comfortable with the lens. You must shoot in manual mode and there is no communication between the lens and your camera. You can only control two things: Exposure level and focus. F stop is control by interchangeable, magnetic aperture disks: f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22.

Lensbaby (lens) is a “selective focus” optic for your digital camera. The basic principle is to produce a “sweet spot” anywhere in the image with ever-increasing blur outside it. You have full control over how large the sweet spot is and where it appears in the image. There is a flexible barrel that you can tilt the lens and the sweet spot can be moved around the frame and to focus on off-center subjects. The size of the sweet spot can be increased or decreased by using a various apertures rings.

If you wish to read more about Lensbaby and see a few more images you can read my blog article here: http://www.rickdiffleyphotography.com/2012/07/06/lensbaby/#more-2536

Thanks for viewing this image.

I knew this was made with a Lensbaby when I first saw it. Nothing else could explain the selective focus. Those magnetic lens disks are identical in function to the Waterhouse stops I use on my pre-1880s lenses.. I like the colors you found, and the light was nice. You did a good job keeping the right things sharp and put the blur where it was most effective.

Nice Lensbaby shot!! You're so right about the "practice makes perfect" when working with that lens, but it's so fun to see what you can come up with. You've obviously been working hard and practicing lots with the payoff of this great image. What year is the truck? I've never seen that logo for Chevrolet…, so just curious. Must be pretty early? To me, it looks like the Chevy logo is on top of a GMC logo?
