Northbrook Stream

I headed out the other week after several days of heavy rain to see how Northbrook Creek was looking. The fog on the drive there was like pea soup and lasted until well after sunrise, so I managed to get quite a few shots while the light was soft.

This one is a blend of 4 shots for focus at f/8 + one shorter exposure for the bright sky at the top.

D800, 14-24 lens @16mm.

Thank you for your c&c :wavey:

Very interesting. Your comp with the strong diagonal lines on the left side forces my eye to go to the distant right and follow the stream down to the left. Then the foreground forces my eye to do the same thing all over again. You've created a nice tension here. Lovely scene as well.

An engaging comp. The sense of depth is wonderful as is the misty mood

David, I like the composition you came up with for this scene. It really looks like a painting to me which is pretty cool. It does seem to have a bit of hdr look to me and I think that might be what gives it kind of a painting look. I do like it and I'm thinking this would make a very cool looking print! Cheers!

There is a lot going on here, but there is also some organization that makes it work. It might just be the natural lean of things, but if sort of feels like a lot of wide-angle distortion here.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Nick - The only hdr work is with blending in the blown white sky with a shorter exposure. The fog did create a painterly effect to the light, which I really loved and so I played on that when processing. I will be printing this one for sure! Thanks!

I've included one of the RAW files here with basic prep in ACR so you can see the DR available in a single shot. The processing in PS was to enhance color and contrast, which I may have pushed a tad too much I think

David, Glad you are going to print this. I think it will look great! Maybe the green and yellow were a little to saturated, but don't think I would back off to much on them. I think as you posted it will be close to making a beautiful print. Something about the feel of this that seems to work so well. Cheers! Nick
