This is the first photograph I took with my macro lens. It was taken in a meadow in a community wildflower garden in South East London.

Canon 350D
Compact Macro 50mm f/2.5
Shutter speed: 1/1600
Aperture: f/2.5
ISO: 200

Hi Vicky. Welcome to NPN and flora! This is a nice first post. I like the DOF that you chose and the interesting bloom that you have featured here.

My nits would be to crop out the partial bloom on the left and then to post this larger so that we can appreciate the details!

Welcome Vicky, great post with the new lens. Like Nathan...go big as possible...720 pix on the side or 1200 for members...which displays more details and nuanced lighting and textures. DOF seems spot-on...w/nice b/g blurred. I might even select the dark spots and brighten to a more consistent b/g. Well done!

Thank you Nathan and Ken for the comments and feedback. Yes, I see that the bud on the left and dark patches in the background are distracting and detract from the overall image. Need to think more when composing. Will also upload larger images in future.

It's really great to have feedback!

I agree with the crop suggestion but I would also eliminate the large white blur of a flower to the right of the subject.

Thank you, Bunn. It's certainly helpful seeing things through other people's eyes.

agree with everybody else, a small crop from the left and move your camera when you look through the view finder until your bg is all even. Something I learned here. Often we concentrate on the pretty flower and forget about the background. Just changing your angle a little bit.

Vicky: Welcome to NPN and to the finest Flora gallery on the planet. I'll be lazy and ditto Nathan's comments but I really like the flower itself. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more.>=))>
