Turn Which Way?

Taken today at Mt Rainier, Sunrise...hike to Dege Peak. NIkon 14-24 mm, at F16 and 24mm, for about 1/125th ss. I tried this comp surrounded by natural dirt, rocks, and sticks...which looked fair. Instead, for the black b/g a velvet 8x4 cloth I use for camera/gear padding was wadded up and tucked-in under the plant. I carry it just in case a subject needs to be isolated which spares me doing it pp. It doubles as an afternoon blanket for napping while I wait for the sunset...lol.

Hi Mark W: Mt Dege hike ...great, as always. The flowers are not massive...better than last year... should peak around the meadows near Sunrise w/in next 10 days. I did not stop and shoot any flower scenes..as they seemed a tad sparse and Mt R was shrouded in fog too from 10 am till later.

Very nice. Framing of the plant is great. Black BG really brings out the subject. :jump:

Ken, I also really like the way that you have isolated the plant. I like the rich green color and lines that plant makes as well. Exposure seems about right. Thanks for sharing.

What a cool idea for blanking out the background. Really going to have to try this sometime. Always been annoyed with the dirt and rocks in scenes like this.

Awesome photo by the way.

Terrific lighting on a perfect specimen!

How was the hike up to Dege? I'm heading up that way later this week, I hope.

I like the exposure, and that black background is perfect. Nice composition, too. I might add a little bit of frame on the bottom, or take off the top.
Great capture.

These always reflect light so well. I like your employment of the dark cloth as it makes the leaves pop.

Ken:
I would turn this 180 degree to make the bottom heavier and more stable!

Beautiful 'studio' like image and fabulous light and details. :toast:
