Spotted this shag on an unusual perch and couldn't resist a shot of it.

A good bird on a very strange perch. The whites are a bit hot on the skull, but otherwise good techs. Is it a heavy crop or could you possibly tease out more detail in the whites?
What kid of critter was that? Not a native, right?

It looks like it was a deer. They were introduced to NZ for hunting and farming purposes. I will have another go at the whites and repost at some stage. I didn't need to crop much of this one at all, I was reasonably close to it. Thanks for the comment.

Awesome catch Toya. What an interesting bird and the perch sure is interesting too!

Toya, nice photo. It is an unusual perch. It would be nice if the whites had a bit more detail. The red deer skull certainly could use more detail, but the antlers are OK. I image this would be a difficult photo situation to get just right. Nice job, thanks for sharing.

Toya,
Outstanding Capture, you were in the perfect location with regards to the sun angle, not always easy to do.
The skull would offer no additional useful detail if corrected; In Fact, the slightly blown out skull draws attention to it, and is the perfect contrast to the black back of the bird giving a real nice balance to the picture visually as well as symbolically. This is art, well done, do not change a thing.

Wow. What a neat capture Toya. I agree with some of the other about some hot spots but the perch, the background, and the bird all make for a splendid capture.
