Lone Loon - WC #545

During a rainy canoe trip last fall, the gray skies and rain seemed to intensify the sense of solitude of this young loon. I could not help but feel a connection to the bird; it was the only one of its species in sight on a rather large wilderness lake, and so was I.

This is a wider crop of a 2x3 version I posted in the Landscape forum last fall. The earlier, tighter crop showed more detail at small Web sizes, but I think this longer version better illustrates the "aloneness" of the young loon. Since it's a pano crop, please see the larger version; I think the larger version is necessary to feel the rain in this shot.

Hand-held from canoe in the rain.

Yes, Wayne, the rain shows up much better in the larger version, as does the lonely loon. Very good submission for the WC theme.

A very strong sense of being "alone" with the loon's size this small.
Great setting and blend of colors, you have my vote
