Probably not Bristol fashion, but well organized and neat. This is on a working shrimp boat.

Processing notes: conversion to b/w in Silver Effects Pro 2. I went all out for texture and tonality. Please feel free to comment and/or critique. Thanks for looking!

Phil,

The conversion to B&W is very well done - think you successfully got the texture and tones you were after I keep looking at this and that is certainly what stands out the most and made me look again. Love the coiled ropes, and also the small bit of net in the URC.

The overall comp doesn't hold me as much as the textures/tones do - primarily due to the large dark object LLC. If you had access to the boat again, maybe try a tighter shot of the ropes, or shift to the right a bit (losing the dark object and gaining more netting) if that's at all possible?

Cheers!

Wonderful tonal range Phil. The sepia B&W treatment works well. Wonderful detail in the large version.

Excellent detail and good job on the conversion. Did you happen to get in close on the lines? I think they would make some very interesting semi-abstracts really tight.

The ropes provide a great focal point and a tight crop might be interesting, but the rest of the scene certainly conveys the idea of a working boat. Nice job. :toast:

Wonderful subtle contrast and the rope detail really stands out. I like the scene you choose for a B&W, well done. Congratulations on the WP.

Phil,
Well done on this capture and processing. Congratulations for a well deserved WP. I had not seen this until it was posted in the WP's or would have commented earlier. I worked on a shrimp boat for three seasons back in the mid 1970's based out of Brunswick, GA, was the hardest work I have ever done. These lines (ropes to land lovers) are the life blood of the daily operation for this trawler and the guys that work it. I really enjoy seeing your nautical captures, you are quite the Seaman with the camera . . . Keep it in the wind . . .
