Lake Lillet

This is part of a photo project on high-altitude mountain lakes in the Gran Paradiso National Park, western Italian Alps. Lake Lillet is at about 2760 meter a.m.s.l., in an area with little vegetation and a lot of bare ground...

Tech: Nikon FX digital format, 14-24/2.8

Well done Ant. The clouds add so much to the scene, and more than compensate for the lack of vegetation.

I particularly like the play of the clouds reflecting off the lake

What a rugged location! The clouds really seem to be all around you. To me, it seems like the image might flow better if the lake was nearer the bottom left hand corner, and with a little more saturation to grab the eye first. With the lake as an anchor, the eye flows diagonally across the frame to the peaks in the background. To achieve this you might crop a bit from the left and top. The bright patch of snow mid frame seems to hold the eye a bit and might need to be toned some. You've got a nice image that could be even better with a few tweaks.

very dramatic! the vignette is perhaps a bit strong. i could see a brightening of the pool, also. the details would be very cool to see there.

I like the way the reflection of the clouds seem to raidiate from the rock point in the right hand side of the lake. Nicely done!

Very good! I like the "real" look to it. Very well composed!

Thank you all for your comments, and for the suggestions!
The location is very rugged, and so is the small pass one has to go through to reach the lake...
Rocks, pebbles and coarse sand all around (and a bit of a tricky trail)...
And then the lake appears, with its intense color...

Looks like a long hike to get to this location. I like the feel of the image that you are high up in the clouds, man and mountain, well done.

Nice!! Great atmosphere. I would suggest a very slight boost in the overall brightness, so that the brightest highlights (snow) are almost to the right side of the histogram. I think that would make the vignette more appealing as well (since its a bit dark here). Very cool location. :wavey:

Fantastic view Ant. Beautiful spot light on the mountains. Love the explosive reflection of clouds on the lake especially.

This is very nice, Antonello. I like how this appears to be floating in the sky. Personally I might like seeing a bit more light and detail in the foreground shadow.

Thanks again for the comments! And yes, the foreground and the whole image could be lightened up a bit... I'll try. Light was continuously changing for the rapid passage of clouds, and the scene was always spotty, with strong contrasts. Then, in half an hour lower clouds arrived and... no scene was left...
