A friend standing on the ridge of a dune (I hope he's not too small to see ). Taken in the Empty Quarter desert in Oman.
Hope you like it! Please let me know!

Nice desert photo, Basil. I like the addition of the tiny person in this image; helps give a perspective to the vastness of the scene. Deserts certainly do bring drought to mind but this looks like it has lots of water gathering in pools. Is this after some rare rains or am I viewing it incorrectly? Irregardless, this is an interesting view that most of us don't get to see so thanks for sharing this.

Thanks Carolyn! There is no water in this shot, though. Most likely, the rocky ground on which these star dunes are wandering gives the impression of pools - but it's in fact quite dry. There is some vegetation that is able to grow there, but not much at all.

Wow! Guess I fell for a classic "mirage".

Basil, Carolyn - I too fell for the mirage effect. Which is quite intriguing.
The person provides scale (which adds to the success of this image) - so it looked almost like a coastal shot at low-tide (minus everything green, lush and wet). I was trying to figure that out - and now an answer!
To have a desert shot come across as a coastal zone is an interesting visual play - quite like it
