So I was down puttin around at our local municipal garden in the middle of the afternoon yesterday, not a cloud in the sky so very harsh light. But lots of dragonflies, butterflies and water. Only brought a Tamron 60mm F/2.0 macro, so I really put it through it's paces.

D300s
60mm macro
ISO 200
1/400 @ f/9
HH
Very minor crop.

Comments appreciated.

Hi John
Welcome to Flora and nice to meet another odonata enthusiast. As you said, the lighting here is harsh but this is also the dragonflies tends to be most active so what can you do? I think you have handled the lighting pretty well and preserving the blue in this light. The reflection is nice. The only suggestion I have is to crop down a little at the top to just where the water edge - the change in the direction of the reed and reflection is a little confusing.

I really like how the flowers and leaves are placed in the frame. The reflections work well also. Might be worth burning-in the brightest parts of the two flowers on the left.

John,
I like this image and the light looks good to me. Good detail in the blossoms and the reflections. :toast:

Welcome to flora John. I'm with Gary on the upper most reflection, but really like the overall image. Well seen and handled.

John: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for a fine first post here. For me a simple tightening of the crop all around would make this stronger. Love the scene and how you managed the light. Looks like you used a polarizer. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>

Hi John :wavey: I like how you composed the Lotus blossoms and the pads. the color and light look very good, and natural to me, agree a crop on top, would make this even better
