Free Lunch

Who says there's no free lunch. This doe certainly was taking advantage of a big section of an oak tree which fell a few days ago. There is an interesting phenomenon whereby during very hot weather seemingly healthy branches fall off of trees. In this case the main part of this oak tree. As this time of the summer is a time of limited food due to the hot and dry weather, this limb with all of it's foliage was a real treat. The deer at the local preserve seem to be starting to change habits again and appear to be a bit more visible. Bucks I've seen have not started to shed their velvet yet. I liked this portrait of the doe as it had nice detail and the big brown eyes with a nice highlight were captivating for me. Comments and critiques welcomed.

Nice portrait. Very sharp and I like the way the deer is framed by the foliage.

The sharpness, color and details stand out very well in the larger image. Good story! Thanks for sharing.

Very nice detail where it counts and I like seeing those big eyes, way to go.

This has a good "feel" to it. My only question is in color tint, as on my monitor it appears to have a slight greenish cast. Depth of field works good for this busy setting. Nicely done.

Thanks for your input Lon. I'm attaching a photo that was the original I worked from. It had an auto WB. Although the veg. at this time of year is dried out and what greens are left tend to be more sage color than usual saturated greens, I thought a bit of warming might help. In looking at them side by side now, I think I went a bit too far and should have specified a K value in between the two. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for sharing the process. After seeing the original WB I would agree with you that "somewhere in between" will be best.
