A misty morning on Lochan Hakel near Ben Loyal Sutherland, Scotland. The sun had already risen and was lighting up dew covered reeds and mist dancing on the surface of the small loch. Taken on a Transient Light Workshop.

Canon 5D2
Canon TSE-24mm 3.5L
Lee 1.5 Stop HE Gradient

Thanks for having a look.

Also have a look at the reposts below. Interested in you thoughts and what works best for you. Thanks.

Eva, love the lighting in this and the mist rising off the water. This needs to be viewed large to really appreciate the details. Nice work!

I must take one of these Transient Light Workshops...! Your images are fantastic! Aside from the light balance, I like how you decided to frame their shot. It feels natural and not forced. Beautiful. The larger version sure does impress that much more.

I personally find the original anemic the more I look at it, so I fooled around with it in Nik Color Efex 4 using their film filters. This is their Fujifilm Velvia rendition with some tweaks. Unfortunately I did not take this on film.

Here is a Nik Software Color Efex Ektachome100G version (another film I have used but not here) with tweaks. Interested in your thoughts. Which one works best for you?

Beautiful scene. Particularly the light is very appealing and suits the scene well. Before seeing the repost, I was happy with the original. Then I saw the reposts and I thought - this is too much contrast and saturation, the atmosphere of the original is missing. I scrolled up and found the original to be lacking in contrast...

So, I think some "average" would do well, the second repost is very close I think.

Hi Eva. Very nice I think I prefer a version somewhere between the first and third example, but erring more toward the first. The original loses a little of that morning sparkle whereas the other two have more sparkle but much less subtlety to the saturation than film would present. Not keen on the second, the third is a little bit less aggressive.

Hi Eva, I agree with Ian...I like the 3rd one but think someplace between the original and that one would be perfect! Beautiful image however I look at it though! Very nice work.

Another wonderful scene from Scotland you have brought us, Eva. I agree about something between the first and third images. Maybe apply the third filter to a layer and reduce it to 50% opacity?

Eva,

I'm really enjoying the quiet mood with this one. and the warmth of the 2nd repost works especially well. I think the first, "Velvia" version is too much and the "Ektachrome" version is a nice compromise between the original post and Velvia.

I just really like the combo of the dramatic light and sky with the calmer, quiet bottom 2/3rds. Beautiful scene.

Beautiful, peaceful scene. Sure feels like I'm sitting there enjoying the peace and the morning sounds. I'm with those who think a intermediate results feels best. I wonder if you couldn't get that with some warming in PS and an increase in contrast.

A lovely scene here Eva. I like the misty water and your overall comp. I prefer the Ektachrome version color wise. I also prefer the contrast in the reflected fg sky in this version. Perhaps the highlights could be tamed a bit in the sky and reflection on the left. Nice shot.

Final repost after starting over with the RAW file in LR4 with Burn and Dodge layers in CS6.

Thanks all for your input.

I like all the versions, which is probably a testament to the light and the attainment of the correct color, bright, and contrast in the original. It's a lovely scene.
