A large elephant bull on the floodplains of Savute in Chobe National Park, Botswana.

I quite liked this in monochrome.

Techs:
Canon 40D with 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM @ 78mm
f4.0 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-400

Hi Morkel,

Love the elephant - sharp, well exposed. Agree very much with your decision to go with monochrome too. That works extremely well here. I also like the separation between the main tree and the elephant tusk - but do find the smaller tree underneath (and touching the tusk) a little distracting. You obviously had no control over that, if the elephant had only lifted it's head a couple of inches for you, just enough to create some separation....

What a wonderful moment - and with the elephants' head slightly turned towards you, it is very engaging :toast:

What a massive and impressive animal. Nice position in frame, dof and choice of b&w. Well done.

Very strong image - the B&W desat works perfectly here.
Agree with cloning out the small tree

I like the drama of this rendition. The pose is wonderful. The vignette in the upper corners was first unnoticed, so apparently it was a solid choice, too. Detail on the bull is wonderful.

Thanks for your comments guys. I don't clone elements out of my colour images but I view B&W imagery in a different light, so will have to go back to the high res to "take care" of that pesky tree below the trunk

Thanks so very much, folks. When I prepare it for high-res fine art printing I will probably clone out the tree under the trunk
And thanks for the WP! :toast:
