This poor little guy flew into my patio door last November. I believe that you can see traces of blood around his beak and his curled up left talon. He was rather confused as he stood on my stood on my patio and eventually came to his senses. I'm assuming he survived.

Thanks for looking.

Juvie Robins are so cute! I'm sure the bird was stunned and confused for a bit after he hit the patio door (he obviously was letting you get close enough to photograph him). But I'm almost positive the red traces around his beak are from the berries in his diet, not blood. And his stance on solid, flat ground is not unusual for a perching bird - their feet can look funny, even deformed - but not to worry, I think his foot was uninjured. (And he probably flew off and forgot all about his encounter with the door!)

In terms of the image itself, I'm not sure the focus was on the eye here -- it looks a bit soft? And I think I would prefer a comp where the bird was on the right hand side instead of the left, simply because of the direction he's looking in.

This looks like a Varied Thrush to me... but I could be wrong. Do they occur in your area?

Interesting, Charlie! What makes you think it may be a VT? I've never seen a Varied Thrush (adult or juvie) but nothing about this bird raised my suspicion that it wasn't an AR. Love learning more about IDing...

Well, it's just the orange on the wings. But they're pretty closely related..... so I might not be correct
